SAG-AFTRA Strikes Documentary At Works?

The SAG-AFTRA strikes were a phenomenon like no other. One which has reshaped the workings of the industry on the inside and outside. Which makes it quite an important subject matter for the filmmakers, who would take pleasure in documenting the entire thing. Director Tom Donahue has started working on the same.

The documentary will encapsulate the events that transformed the labor organization union. If you have been living under a rock, then for you, a quick summary goes as follows: Back in 2008, the Writers Guild of America went on strike, following which, after 16 years, the years 2023 and 2024 saw a 118-day strike ensue.

This was the reason many of the movies were delayed. Now a documentary is in motion, which will cover the events of the strikes, including the merger of the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Radio and Television Artists in 2012.

While the movie was shelved at the time, the plan has been resuscitated after the 118-day work stoppage. The filmmakers also wish to portray the rise of “new media” in the wake of the strikes. Which was primarily streaming services.

The filmmakers mention that “time is on our side with this, and the amount of time it took was actually almost necessary to be able to see the long-view lens of the problem.”
