Scream 7 is shaping up to be a crazy, nostalgic ride, especially for fans who loved the first two movies. Another veteran has joined the film’s cast, which already includes talents like Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin, Joel McHale as Sidney’s husband, and more.
Veteran actor Matthew Lillard is the newest addition to Scream 7. He played Stu Macher in the original 1996 film. Stu was Tatum’s (Rose McGowan) boyfriend and the best friend of Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich).
Stu aided Billy in wreaking havoc on the lives of Sidney, Gale, and other OG characters, terrorizing the town of Woodsboro as one of the Ghostface killers.
In the climax of the first Scream movie, Stu meets his demise when Sidney drops a TV on his head, seemingly killing him. However, many fans speculated that he might have survived. Well, it turns out he did!
We don’t yet know in what capacity Stu will impact the lives of other characters. He could don the Ghostface mask again and seek revenge on Sidney in Scream 7, or he might manipulate a new killer—or killers—in the upcoming installment. At this point, anything is possible.
Lillard’s return as Stu will test Sidney’s bravery and mental strength, given the trauma she has been carrying all these years.
Due to the departure of Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega from Scream 7, the film is taking a new creative direction. The return of Matthew Lillard as Stu Macher signals a shift back to the franchise’s roots, with familiar characters and a renewed focus on the original storyline.
Lillard’s addition is certainly a welcome one, considering his ability to make audiences feel both comfortable and terrified within seconds. It will be interesting to see how the filmmakers utilize his talents in Scream 7. Stay tuned for more updates.
