Shogun: Season 2 Gets Masive Update

Shogun was a wave at the Emmy’s this year. The series got an insane response, which led to the sweep it performed with a total of 18 Emmy awards now under its belt. Now it was obvious that the public would demand more, and FX is ready to deliver. Since the first season was clearly an adaptation of James Clavell’s novel of the same name, the series didn’t really have much scope for any sequels.

However, FX chairperson John Landgraf has given some solid updates on the status of the second season. The second season will build upon what the first season and the novel had to offer. In a latest interview, Landgraf mentioned that the second season will take place after Clavell’s novel, and not just that, the showrunners too are confirming a well-carved story.

Shogun is set in feudal Japan. Full of power struggles and heavy stakes. The original novel was first adapted in 1980, only to be recreated in 2023. The show featured heavy hitters like Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis, who plays a white man in Feaudal Japan. The last we saw of him, he was introducing the Japanese soldiers to new western weaponry.

Not just the second season; the studio is ready to release a third season as well. As Landgraf mentions, “Season 2 & 3 are separate narratives; they’re all a part of one continuous narrative with continuing characters.”.

The second season will have a release date somewhere in 2025.
