Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has arrived on Disney+ with a bang, winning the hearts of viewers and critics worldwide. Early reactions to the latest Jude Law-led series are overwhelmingly positive, with praise directed at the direction of Jon Watts and David Lowery, the stunning practical effects, and outstanding performances.
Skeleton Crew currently boasts a staggering 94% “fresh” critic score on Rotten Tomatoes (based on 43 certified reviews). It has also achieved an impressive 88% audience score, which is especially significant given the poor reception of The Acolyte (18%) among the franchise’s fanbase. The overwhelmingly negative audience response to The Acolyte ultimately led to the show’s cancellation.
Rolling Stone praised the latest Star Wars project while noting that it leans into “borderline fanfiction territory.”
REVIEW: Thankfully, 'Skeleton Crew' has a solid adventure story to tell, even as it leans into the Reagan-era Easter eggs and borderline fanfiction territory.

#SkeletonCrew is a coming-of-age adventure FILLED WITH WONDER and classic Star Wars MAGIC. Justin Lawrence from Geek Centric has declared the series “pure Star Wars magic!”, hailing it as a wonderful blend of wonder, heart, and adventure.
#SkeletonCrew is pure Star Wars MAGIC! Combining WONDER, HEART, & ADVENTURE, this Amblin-style journey in a galaxy far far away feels like a love letter to the 1980s while still being a modern Star Wars story. It’s a thrilling ride with a cast of misfit kids for fans of all ages. pic.twitter.com/q8eZWQE2Ak

IGN also praised the show for its clever storytelling, highlighting its ability to avoid reliance on 80s nostalgia.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’s two-episode premiere rises above ‘80s nostalgia bait for a surprisingly clever–if somewhat simplistic–story about the scallywags, swashbucklers, and precocious children of the Star Wars universe.
