Stranger Things Season 5 Records Massive Drop in Volume 2 But…

“Stranger Things” saw a sharp drop in viewership between the two releases of its final season, even as the show continued to dominate Netflix’s charts.

The first batch of Season 5 episodes debuted on Nov. 26 and pulled in a massive 59.6 million views in its first five days. It was the biggest premiere week ever for an English language series on Netflix, driven by heavy holiday viewing and years of anticipation for the final chapter.

When Volume 2 arrived on Christmas Day, the numbers were still strong but notably lower. The second release added 34.5 million views on Christmas, marking a steep decline from the initial launch. The drop shows how front loaded viewing has become for major streaming releases, with most fans rushing in as soon as new episodes become available.

But does that mean people did not watch Volume 2?

No, far from it.

The lower figure does not show fading interest. Netflix calculates views by dividing total hours watched by the full runtime of episodes available. Since Volume 2’s viewing is measured across all seven released episodes rather than just the first four, its view count was always expected to be smaller.

Despite the decline, “Stranger Things” Season 5 remained the most watched English language TV show of the week. All previous seasons also returned to the top ten, showing that audience engagement remains high as the series heads toward its final episode on New Year’s Eve.
