Being in high school is perhaps a different experience for everyone. While it is pleasant for some, it is the comple opposite for others. American teen rom-coms have done a better job at portraying this than practically anything else.
One title that does this job well is Ari Sandel’s ‘The Duff’. Although ‘D.U.F.F’ is an acronym for the ‘designated ugly fat friend’, the movie follows the not-so-DUFF Bianca when she realises that she is only being used by people to get to her popular friends. In the aftermath of this realization, she decides to change.
For the same, she begs her former friend aka the popular jock, to help rebuild her image in exchange for helping him with science. The light-hearted, at times cringey comedic feature stars Mae Whitman, Bella Thorne, Robbie Amell, and more in leading roles.
The plot progresses while traversing the bittersweet lives of a bunch of young and easily troubled teens, irrespective of whether or not they’re the bullies or the bullied. This is one of those easygoing one-time-watch-guilty-pleasure titles that you may or may not be able to get enough of!
