The Boys Season 5: No Happy Ending, Only Bloodbath

The end is near for Prime Video’s The Boys, set to end the saga with its upcoming Season 5. If you are thinking that you’re going to get a “happily ever after” ending with the fifth season, then we are truly sorry to inform you that you are mistaken. Showrunner Eric Kripke has bad news for you.

In a recent chat with SFX magazine (via GamesRadar), Kripke got brutally honest about how he wants to end the show.

SPOILER ALERT!!! It’s going to be a complete bloodbath!

Kripke isn’t holding back. He’s tired of big sci-fi and superhero shows where the heroes survive impossible odds just because they’re the main characters.

“I keep yelling at the screen, ‘Things cost things! You can’t get away with this!'” Kripke said. For him, a show about a messy, violent war against a psycho like Homelander doesn’t work if everyone walks away with just a few scratches. He wants the ending to feel real, and in the world of The Boys, real usually means “really bloody.”

The best part about Season 5 being the final one? The writers finally have nothing to lose. Usually, showrunners have to keep the lead actors safe so they can come back next year. But since the story is wrapping up, Kripke admitted the team is “really enjoying” the freedom to finally “waste people.”

It means that no one is safe in The Boys Season 5. We already know that both Homelander and Billy Butcher are destined to meet their deaths, but not before we get another epic showdown between these guys.

There are also rumours that some major characters may bite the dust in early episodes. Without the need to set up a Season 6, the show can go full diabolical without looking back.

Ending a massive hit is stressful. Kripke admitted he feels a fair amount of terror about the finale. He knows fans have high expectations, and he’s determined not to let the show go out with a whimper.

If Kripke’s latest comments are any indication, Season 5 is going to be an emotional wrecking ball. The cost of taking down Vought and Homelander is going to be high, likely paid in the lives of the characters we’ve followed for years. Stay tuned for more updates.
