The Brutalist: A Masterpiece In A Fraction Of A Studio’s Budget

Brady Corbet’s recent flick, The Brutalist, has proved its mettle. And it is clearly not something one can just overlook. A 3.5-hour-long movie, which showcases the rise of a humble architect, received a lot of praise the last month when it was released. Which makes it even more jaw-dropping that the movie was just made with 10 million dollars.

To say the least, the ambition of the 36-year-old director is pretty much evident. While many are banking on the movie to be a solid contender for Oscars. It’s only Corbet who knows the hardship of making this flick. At this point it’s a flex; to nail a 3.5-hour runtime in a humble sum of 10 million, any studio would have taken over 10 times of this.
Corbet mentions, “We cut every crn we could to make sure every single cent was on screen.”

Corbet blatantly said that he wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. As it was just years and years of working for free. The seven years Corbet spent to piece his vision together—through the strike, pandemics, and war—are clearly visible in his work.

He mentions how he never thought of the brutalist having a huge budget. However, he mentions that a higher budget would have helped. The subject matter of the movie and the making of “The Brutalist” are pretty much equivalent; it’s the story of the guts of a man against all odds to make a project work.
