The Penguin episode 2 is out, and it is already fuel for theories. The penguin has been getting a lot of good praise ever since its release. The project is able to transcend its own genre. The series is not limited by the tag of being a comic book movie; rather, it takes full advantage of the source material. The pure crime noir setting of the Batman universe is reflected beautifully in the penguin.
While many considered the lack of Batman would affect the reception, the contrary came true. The absence of the bat has allowed the rest of the universe to find depth rarely seen in the genre. The character of The Penguin is the perfect flawed protagonist, with a beautiful conflict of character in himself. On one side, we see Cobblepot as a really chill guy, but the maniacal murderer is not hidden.
Talking about Christin Millioti, she brings in insane charm to her character. Her acting is convincing enough for us to believe that this woman walked straight out of an asylum. The second episode gave us a proper backstory about Sophia. Her traumas and her trails at Arkham.
Along with that, the episode settles Sophia’s status as The Hangman. That’s her alias in the comic. Not just that, it gives us an idea of where the series might go. The penguin might just be too close to getting caught, and the tensions rise. But we might just see his treacherous side take over to get him out of the noose of Hangman.
