These Two A24 Movies Set To Shake Up The 2025 Oscars

We are nearly five months away from the 2025 Oscars, but the awards season has already commenced. All prominent studios, including A24, have started to strengthen their arsenals to dominate the upcoming 97th Academy Awards.

There is a strong buzz surrounding James Mangold’s Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez, Steve McQueen’s Blitz, and Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II. Now, A24 has entered the 2025 Oscars race with not one but two highly anticipated movies: Luca Guadagnino’s Queer (starring Daniel Craig) and Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist (led by Academy Award-winning actor Adrien Brody).

A24 has chosen the perfect time for the theatrical releases of Queer and The Brutalist, making them eligible for next year’s Oscars. Guadagnino’s historical romance film is scheduled to hit theaters on November 27, followed by The Brutalist, which will be released on December 20.

In terms of critical reception, The Brutalist has a clear edge over Queer, as the former holds a strong 98% ‘fresh’ critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, while Queer stands at 78%.

Comparing the ongoing buzz around these movies, the odds seem more in favor of The Brutalist. The addition of Adrien Brody’s historical drama could drastically shake up the competition for next year’s Oscars. A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once won the Best Picture Oscar at the 95th Academy Awards, beating out heavyweights such as Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar: The Way of Water, and Elvis. The indie studio could repeat its success with The Brutalist.

Queer could earn nominations for Best Actor (Craig) and Best Adapted Screenplay (Justin Kuritzkes). Meanwhile, The Brutalist might be recognized in categories such as Best Actor (Brody), Best Supporting Actress (Felicity Jones), and Best Director (Corbet). Stay tuned for more updates.
