According to several reports, a TV adaptation of ‘V for Vendetta’ is currently in development at HBO. Sources indicate that Pete Jackson will write the series, with James Gunn and Peter Safran serving as executive producers under DC Studios, alongside Leanne Klein from Wall to Wall Media and Ben Stephenson from Poison Pen. Warner Bros. Television will produce the project.
Representatives for HBO and DC Studios have yet to comment on the matter.
Set in a near-future, dystopian Britain ruled by the totalitarian Norsefire party, the story follows V, an anarchist donning a Guy Fawkes mask, as he plots to overthrow the fascist regime with the help of Evey Hammond, a woman he saves from the secret police.
V for Vendetta, written by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd, debuted in 1982 as a serial within the British anthology Warrior. The series was later picked up by DC Comics and republished beginning in 1988.
The Penguin from DC Studios, starring Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti, marked the first live-action series from the DCU’s “Elseworlds” division, serving as a direct follow-up to Matt Reeves’s The Batman.
Another live-action HBO–DC Studios collaboration, Lanterns (featuring Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre as Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart), is also in development and scheduled to premiere in 2026.
The previous adaptation of V for Vendetta (2005) was a feature film directed by James McTeigue and starring Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving. The film was both a critical and commercial success, grossing over $134 million worldwide against a $50 million budget. Stay tuned for more updates.
