Now that the hype of Deadpool and Wolverine’s is dead and just one more comic book movie yet to release in December, it’s time to look back at how the year went for the genre, and as far as numbers go, it was not good.
The movies released this year started off with Madame Webb, and to say the least, fans hated it. According to Rotten Tomatoes, Madame Webb managed to be the worst comic book movie of all time. The movie has a meager 11%
But the trail doesn’t stop here. Following Madame Webb, The Crow went downhill as well. given that the crow never really stood a chance against such huge competition. Furthermore, the other movies couldn’t do much either. The new Hellboy Moovie feels too stretched. Hellboy: The Crooked Man could only garner a rough 41%, and yet, this was not the worst disappointment of the year.
While no one cared a bit about Madame Webb, it was destined to crash; however, the worst fall of all time was for Todd Philips’ Joker. While the first movie was adored by fans and garnered so much recognition, the second movie couldn’t even beat Madame Webb before stretching too thin.
The only movie that made people loosen their pockets was, of course, Deadpool and Wolverine. The movie was such a massive hit, and yet it could only garner a 78%. Which is not less by any means, but given that the movie has now become the biggest rated superhero movie ever, it should have been higher up.
As of now, Venom: The Last Dance has started off with a weak 37% on Rotten Tomatoes. Which is not surprising for Sony Spiderman Universe and has set the benchmark for Kraven’s performance in December. It is being expected that the next year will be much better, with the advent of the new DCU and multiple MCU projects.
