James Gunn’s Superman is set to become the first official feature entry in the revamped DC Universe. Following the David Corenswet-led film, we will see The Brave and the Bold, which focuses on Batman, and then Clayface. This raises the question of what will happen to the rest of the Justice League members. It’s now quite clear that none of the DCEU actors will reprise their roles in Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU. This means we’ll get new actors for Batman, Flash, and other prominent superheroes. Speaking of Flash, here’s what Gunn has to say about the possibility of a movie centered on him.
Gunn responded to a fan on Threads when asked about the status of the Flash movie. The director revealed that the project has yet to be finalised, as its script isn’t ready. He added that they are “holding a beat on development” for the Flash movie in the DCU.

The confirmation of Clayface came about thanks to Mike Flanagan. The filmmaker had a pitch and script ready for the movie, which impressed Gunn so much that he felt compelled to greenlight the project. In contrast, the script for Flash is still under development.
The practice of not finalising a project until its script is ready makes sense, especially given the controversy surrounding the development of Andy Muschietti’s The Flash (2023). Further complicating matters was its leading man, Ezra Miller, whose real-life issues significantly impacted the movie’s reception. Despite having a promising premise, the film tanked at the box office, earning only $271 million globally against its hefty $200–220 million budget.
A Flash movie may not yet have been confirmed by DC Studios and Warner Bros., but it’s clear that fans will see a new face portraying the iconic speedster in Gunn’s DCU.
The pause on the Flash movie doesn’t mean the character has no place in the DCU. One of Flash’s classic villains, Gorilla Grodd, appeared in Creature Commandos. This suggests that Flash will be referenced in upcoming DCU projects. Let’s see when the project finally comes to fruition. Stay tuned for more updates!
