Timothée Chalamet possesses all the qualities necessary to become a great movie star in Hollywood, far beyond simply being an actor. In fact, one could argue he has already achieved that prestigious status, thanks to his electrifying performance in the latest Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, directed by veteran filmmaker James Mangold. The movie is based on Elijah Wald’s 2015 book, Dylan Goes Electric!. Chalamet’s performance has garnered widespread acclaim from critics and audiences alike, with many predicting him as a sure-shot nominee for Best Actor at the 97th Academy Awards.
Chalamet’s breakthrough role came in Luca Guadagnino’s 2017 drama Call Me By Your Name. His exceptional performance in the film earned him a Best Actor nomination during that awards season, making him one of the youngest actors ever to receive an Oscar nod at the time.
Now, Chalamet has the opportunity not only to secure a nomination at the 97th Oscars but also to win the Best Actor award. If he succeeds, he will become the youngest actor to achieve this honour, breaking Adrien Brody’s record for The Pianist (2002).
Fate, however, works in mysterious ways. Call it luck or whatever you will, but Brody is also a leading contender in this year’s Oscar race for his hard-hitting and masterful performance in The Brutalist, a three-and-a-half-hour-long period drama directed by Brady Corbet.
If Timothée Chalamet wins this year’s Best Actor Oscar, he will become the youngest actor to achieve this honour. He is currently 29 years old, the same age Adrien Brody was when he won in 2003. However, Chalamet would still hold the record as the youngest winner due to his December birthday. The only major competition Chalamet faces is Brody himself, who delivers a standout performance as László Tóth in The Brutalist, portraying an architect who arrives in America to rebuild his marriage and career.
In the Best Movie category, The Brutalist appears to have the upper hand over A Complete Unknown, as it boasts stronger reviews, reflected in its impressive 94% Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. In comparison, James Mangold’s latest project stands at a respectable 78%. Stay tuned for more updates.
