Zack Snyder Offers A Positive Update On ‘300’ Prequel Series

Earlier this year ‘Rebel Moon’ helmer Zack Snyder was reportedly in talks to direct a prequel series to 300 (2006), which starred the likes of Gerard Butler, Lena Headey, and Dominic West. Now, Snyder himself has confirmed that he will direct and executively produce the prequel project. He’s busy promoting his ‘Rebel Moon’ flicks and the forthcoming anime series ‘Twilight of the Gods’ during Netflix’s Geeked Week and was recently interviewed about the progress of his projects.

In his recent interview with ComicBook, Snyder offered the current status of his highly anticipated 300 prequel series. This is what he said:

“We’re just getting ready to dive in and get to work on it. It’s super fun, I love the world,” said Snyder. “And even just in the preliminary meetings we’ve had talking about, like, ‘What if this happened or that happened,’ just a lot of it’s just really fun to go, wow, it’s a rich standard. It’s similar to this [Twilight of the Gods] in a weird way. As far as there’s a lot of underpinnings.”

The upcoming 300 TV series is a prequel that will focus on the Spartans, led by King Leonidas, before their epic, brutal, and bloody war with Xerxes. It may explore young Leonidas’ journey to becoming the king of the Spartans.

The 2006 film was an adaptation of Frank Miller and Lynn Varley’s 1988 limited comic book series of the same name. It turned out to be a staggering box-office success, earning over $456 million globally against its $65 million budget. Its sequel, titled “300: Rise of an Empire”, was adapted from Miller’s 2018 “Xerxes” graphic novel, and minted over $337 million against a $110 million budget.

A prequel series based on Snyder’s 300 movie seems like a profitable venture for both the director and Warner Bros., and they are indeed collaborating on this project. Despite its noticeable flaws, the 2006 film has developed a strong cult following in recent years. Moreover, Snyder’s expertise with visuals and slow-motion sequences will likely set the prequel series apart from other shows. Additionally, action-packed fantasy and historical dramas such as Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, Vikings, and Spartacus have popularized these genres. The 300 prequel series could emerge as a major success for Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) and Snyder. Stay tuned for more updates.
