We just got another glimpse of Robert Eggers’ upcoming supernatural horror Nosferatu. The second trailer has everyone in awe, as the campiness of the vampirism is nowhere to be seen in this trailer. Robert Eggers has managed to bring out the seriousness of the vampire genre, despite it being buried under years upon years of parodied and neutralized versions of the creature.
The movie being set in 19th-century Germany allows viewers to delve into the supernatural, unrestricted of the “vampire in the modern day” package. This is no virus; this is no disease. This is something more sinister. An unexplainable supernatural experience beyond humanity. And it serves its purpose to the fullest.
Now we know, Bill Skarsgard will be playing the titular character. The nosferatu, along with him, we have Willem Dafoe, Lily Rose Depp, and Nicholas Hoult. Willem Dafoe is probably a physician, here to help Depp as she suffers these nightmares. The character seems entranced by the vampire, and it has to be said, this regression to the classic skill set of the nosferatu looks amazing. It seems like Skarsgard might be the most lore accurate vampire we have seen since Coppola’s Dracula.
Lily Rose Depp steals the show with her immense skill, proving how it was the script that did her bad in “The Idol.” She is absolutely breathtaking. The trailers have barely provided us with glimpses of the creature. However, this just might work in the favor of the movie, as the fans are anticipating. The movie will hit theaters on Christmas this year.
