Movies about the Indian Air Force are less conceived, due to their technical constraints. However, Bollywood flicks like Siddarth Anand’s ‘Fighter’ have given an idea about their work profile in depth albeit it has taken references from Hollywood movies.
‘Sainyam’ (Eng. The Force) 1994 Malayalam-language action film written by S. N. Swamy and directed by Joshiy. The story is about the life of an Indian Air Force Officer Group Captain, Eashwar, who engages himself in a project called “Red Alert,” which involves the renovation of condemned aircraft.
The movie was well-received on its theatrical release due to its unparalleled storytelling, the making, along the performances. It is still considered a remarkable approach in Malayalam cinema as it is the only Indian Air Force film to date in its industry.
Actor Mammootty plays Eashwar, who is the lead role alongside actors Mukesh, Dilieep, Chiyaan Vikram, Priya Raman, Mohini, Sukumaran, and Abi playing important roles.
The technical labour includes handling cinematography by Jayanan Vincent, editing done by K. Shankunny, and music composed by S.P. Venkatesh respectively. The movie was bankrolled by Vellur Balram for Ambu Films.
