The much-anticipated Malayalam movie of the month is all on screens from today and the audience intake is satiable and is receiving high responses after its first show. Did it meet the expectations? Can it become a feather for the box office?
‘Bougainvillea’ is expected to be a kickass action thriller film directed by Amal Neerad and produced by Kunchako Boban for Udaya Pictures as well as Jyothirmayi for Amal Neerad Productions. The screenplay will be penned by Lajo Jose along with the director. Dialogues for the flick are written by RJ Murugan.
However, the screenwriter has confirmed on his social media page that the speculation that the script is an adaptation of his own Malayalam novel ‘Ruthinte Lokam’ (Eng. The World of Ruth) is not true and the flick tells an entirely different story.
As per the credible responses, the movie can’t be claimed as a novel approach to the world of Malayalam cinema, but a distinctiveness in the usual Amal Neerad film is observed. The storytelling is slow-paced in the first half with character establishment and providing a mystery background throughout the scenes.
Music and background scores by Sushin Shyam are again building an engaging factor for Neerad’s film after they collaborated in ‘Bheeshma Parvam’ (2022). The work is visible in efforts, but intriguing and shady as per the narrative.
Performances by actors Jyothirmayi and Kunchako Boban are decent despite flat performances from the other supporting actors. Not as expected, But actor Fahadh Faasil has less space in the drama-turning thriller storyline. The movie does not have complicated twists and turns albeit being a complex character arc of main leads.
Editing by Vivek Harshan and cinematography by Anand C Chandren are well-executed and satiable from the angle of narrative and film production.

In a nutshell, the movie is a watchable theatrical entertainer with compelling technical qualities and not a bad event in building the mystery in storytelling.
