The releases in the Malayalam film industry are getting wider views and recognition due to their invaluable content and camaraderie. Also, the smaller-scale films are receiving better critical acclaim from the other industries.
However, a major portion of the recent filmography is getting stagnant, and no bigger movies are expected this month. Albeit big-budget movies are en route this year, the fear factor of unexpected failures of previous mammoth projects is an arising constraint. Can the industry be able to tackle such an issue?
‘Identity’ is an upcoming investigative crime-drama thriller written and directed by Akhil Paul and Anaz Khan, where Raju Malliath for Ragam Movie will bankroll the effort. The filmography had a plethora of thriller films this year. How can this effort stand out?
The movie will feature an ensemble cast of actors Tovino Thomas and Trisha Krishnan as the main leads, alongside actor Vinay Rai, who is supposed to play a prevalent role, and actors Mandira Bedi, Shammi Thilakan, Aju Varghese, Arjun Radhakrishnan, Archana Kavi, and Gopika Ramesh in supporting roles.
Performances of actors are expected to be a major highlight of the effort as well as their wider audience appeal. Actor Tovino’s performances in the recent movie named ‘A.R.M’ are well received for his versatility in conceiving three different characters. The actor has broken the shackles of industrial boundaries using his roles in movies like ‘Minnal Murali’, ‘2018: Everyone is a Hero’, ‘Kala’, etc.
Subsequently, this is the second association of the duo directors and the actor after the movie ‘Forensic’ which was a psychological thriller albeit not being a commercial success at the box office.
Technical labour is another huge alluring factor of the project. Akhil George is handling the cinematography, Chaman Chacko will be overseeing the editing, and Jakes Bejoy will be composing the music as well as the background scores respectively.
