Can This Malayalam Satirical Drama Impact The OTT Viewership

Streaming web series in the popular OTT platforms can be an effective way of propagation. This can help in reaching a wider audience to an extent. But is this the only requisite in today’s context? What if an effort constructed smaller in scale doesn’t go well despite its noteworthy content?

‘Jai Mahendran’ is expected to be a comedy-satirical drama web series directed by Srikanth Mohan, it talks about the character Mahendran, who is a deputy tahsildar in the Government of Kerala which is fictional and will make the audience travel with him for the world that he perceives.

This might have the storyline of a person, who has some power in the system, trying to misuse its value by being lazy and careless which may be a representation of some officials. Following the promo teasers released at the beginning of the year, various issues regarding the story idea and post-production works were limiting the effort to get released.

The web series will be directed by debutant Srikanth Mohan and produced along with written by Rahul Riji Nair for First Print Studios. The cinematography is handled by Prasanth Narayanan and editing will be done by Christy Sebastian who are both, again debutants. Music will be composed by Sidhartha Pradeep and sound design and mixing will be conducted by Vishnu P C.

However, within a few days of its release, the promotional factor seems to be very weak as no major attributes for a significant selling point are found for the project. Also, the number of languages to which it is going to stream feels absurd as less marketing for the promotion is visible.

Expecting the lead actor’s performances will have no compromise as all mentioned above can manage with subtle humour and dialogue delivery. Actor Saiju Kurup is playing the titular character, which the audience can find relief.

Furthermore, the storyline is relevant in today’s social issue perspective and can be a stage in addressing several constraints that are faced by the common people. This could also voice about the effects based on political scenarios happening in the local area.

The series includes an ensemble cast of actors Saiju Kurup, Suhasini Maniratnam, Rahul Riji Nair, Miya George, Suresh Krishna, John Antony, Vishnu Govindan, Maniyan Pillai Raju, Siddhartha Siva and Pauly Valsan respectively.

The series will begin its episode on the 11th of October on the Sony LIV platform and stay tuned in Binged for more updates.
