The much-awaited Malayalam movie ‘Marco’ is all on the cards and is set to release on the big screens. The official teaser announced yesterday is something gore, gritty, and violent that can have the potential to make an unsettling watchable entertainer. How ‘Marco’ is going to excite the audience? And how will its reception be?
The movie is written and directed by Haneef Adeeni who has given movies like ‘The Great Father’ which had actor Mammooty in the main lead. The effort will be produced by Shareef Muhammed and Abdul Gadhaf for Cubes Entertainment along with Unni Mukundan for UMF Productions.
Actor Unni Mukundan reprises his role as ‘Marco’, a spin-off character from Adeeni’s previous movie named ‘Mikhael’ (Eng. Michael), released in 2019 with actor Nivin Pauly as its title character. The character played by Unni Mukundan’s name is Marco and he played the role of a villain. Although this movie had not been a great success, the character had received good critical acclaim.
The storytelling of this spin-off compels extreme violence and a well-defined character arc of the titular character as well as the surroundings. The role could probably be that of a grey shade that will have closer resemblances with internationally praised characters like ‘John Wick’ with more inclusion in bloodshed with engaging stunt sequences.
However, the possibility of such gore occurrences has to be convincing to the audience as there are a plethora of profound benchmark efforts for such a genre and this will be a huge challenge for the one which is claiming to be the ‘most violent Malayalam flick to date’.
Furthermore, this movie will be the lead actor’s big-budget movie to date and his performance will be the most expected factor as well as the unique selling point of the project. The recent box office failures of the director are another constraint that is hoped to change such notions with this effort.
Moreover, greater expectations in stunt sequences are seen which is done by action director Kalai Kingson. Art direction by Sunil Das and Cinematography by Chandu Selvaraj is a hope for efficient technical tactics. A defined performance from actor Unni Mukundan may not be visible, but it would be better if he could deliver the emotions of the character as the narrative demands it.
The movie is expected to release on Christmas day and stay tuned in Binged to get more updates on ‘Marco’.
