The possibility of emerging as a ‘dark horse’ has been proven correct by the Malayalam movie ‘Kishkindha Kaandam’, the ‘Onam’ release. The flick is reported to have the highest booking in the last 24 hours on the ‘book my show’ platform at the national level which is profound.
‘Kishkindha Kaandam’, is a mystery drama thriller, that showcases the world-building of the Kallepathi forest division, somewhere on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border, and imposing CrPC or BNSS Section 144 thereby affecting a family that is believed to be the most advanced and civilized species to date, called human beings.
When the main lead explains the monkey species living in the forest and hints at being the successors of Lord Hanuman and Sugriva from the great epic, the story also tries to explain the concept of human anthropology. To catch the first impression, the makers have deliberately attempted to summarise the movie’s plot, which is ‘The Tale of Three Wise Monkeys’ showing the perspective of three different people of the same family.
The strength of this flick includes the exemplary and mind-bending screenplay by Bahul Ramesh which engages and intrigues the audience. The unpredictability in the narrative and its efficient storytelling hooks the viewers. The technical labour like cinematography and music composition by Mujeeb Majeed is splendid and blends with the subject matter.
Direction by Dinjith Ayyathan has done justice to the screenplay and performances by actors Asif Ali, Vijayaraghavan, Ashokan, Aparna Balamurali and Jagadish are phenomenal.
The ubiquitous storytelling which is set up in a ‘world of forest’ can connect to any viewers despite its regional boundaries and hence the content helps in breaking this shackle. Moreover, this flick will be the best reference for the audience to witness how content can help a cinema to spread like wildfire.
