The concept of movie distribution was the least talked factor among the audience until the issue of the OTT pre-sales in Malayalam movies came out. Previously, the big-budget movies were the star attraction to other industries ensuring the distributors were an aid for its total gross in the box office using some paraphernalia.
Surprisingly, the upcoming trend of audiences receiving small and limited budget theatrical releases with high content value is a satiable one and Malayalam cinema being its generator.
The recent news of Kannada actor-director Raj B Shetty, who is also popular with the Kerala audience for his brilliant works in ‘Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana’ and ‘Toby’, has acquired the rights for the latest release named ‘Gumasthan’ for the Karnataka theatres under the Lighter Buddha Films, that is his own production and distribution company.
‘Gumasthan: A Brutal Criminal Beyond Law’ is a Malayalam crime thriller that is based on a cop investigation episode and a landlord is its nucleus for the storyline. The movie is directed by Amal K Joby and produced by Musafir Film Company.
Riyas Ismath penned the screenplay and the music is composed by Stephen Devassy. Also, the technical labour includes the handling of cinematography by Kunjunni S Kumar and editing is done by Ayoob Khan.
The movie features actors Bibin George, Dileesh Pothan, Jaise Jose, Rony David Raj, Azees Nedumangad, Alexander Prasanth, and Sminu Sijo in important roles. Despite having a better storyline and performance of actor Jaise Jose, the promotional aspect of the flick is not to the point and has fewer big names from the industry.
However, the movie is doing comparatively better at the Kerala box office and is expected to do well on Karnataka’s big screens too. The flick had its first theatrical release on the 27th of September.
