Another weekend is all knocking at the doors where the Malayalam film industry is still getting luckier for being a moderator. There were a good number of releases for the month to date despite most of them not receiving well on the big screens. The OTT releases were equally awaited by the audience based on their theatre release in the previous month.
Binged would like to suggest a funny entertainer that can be a relief and enjoyable watch for this weekend.
‘Thekku Vadakku’ is a Malayalam comedy-drama which is directed by Prem Sankar. The screenplay, adapted from S Hareesh’s story ‘Rathri Kaaval’, is crafted by its writer himself. The movie is bankrolled by Anjana Talkies in collaboration with VARS Studios, led by V. A. Shrikumar Menon.
The technical labour includes music and scores by Sam C S, editing by Kiran Das, and cinematography by Suresh Rajan respectively.
Actors Vinayakan and Suraj Venjaramoodu play the main leads in the film along with actors Merin Jose, Vineeth Vishwam, Melvin G Babu, Shameer Khan, Sheethal Joseph, and Kottayam Ramesh in supporting roles.
As per theatrical reactions, the movie has received average to mixed responses, more or less the anticipated level. The merits include the performances of the lead actors, the character arc, the compelling reason for the narrative, and engaging background scores.
However, the limitations include the connecting of humour to the audience as it is the basic genre for the movie, and the duration is tiresome compared due to the nature of the short story. There is less significance for other actors and technical wings have nothing remarkable.
Furthermore, the movie has a slight similarity to Jean Paul Lal’s 2019 Malayalam film named ‘Driving License’ which showcased the same concept of ego thereby becoming wrath despite making it in a humorous approach.
Moreover, the trend of the ‘two leads effect’ in Malayalam movies continues and there are more to come this year with ‘Thekku Vadakku’ being a one-time watchable flick.
The movie is streaming on the Manorama MAX platform and stay tuned in Binged for more updates.
