The last and final day of the month is here and the status of the Malayalam film industry and its box office is yet to be for its ultimate touch. But this time, there are no bigger names for the box office despite the healthy commercial entertainers from other industries.
With its conclusion and the wait for the Diwali releases, three movies are expected to be the tight competitors in the industry. How can it be able to impact the box office? Who can win the game?
‘Amaran’ (Eng. An Immortal Man) is expected to be a biographical action war film directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and produced by Kamal Hassan for Raaj Kamal Films International, together with Vivek Krishnani for Sony Pictures Films India.
The movie will tell the story of Late Major Mukund Varadarajan, an Indian Army officer in the Rajput Regiment of the 2006 batch. The storyline will be a compelling biographical picture along with a character-driven narrative.
Movies like Nelson’s ‘Doctor’ and rom-coms like ‘Remo’ and ‘Don’ led by the former were successful efforts on Kerala’s big screens as well and the latter’s recognized debut was in the Malayalam industry that is Alphonse Putheren’s ‘Premam’ and her character is popular even in today’s audience, and the movie becoming the trendsetter of the box office.
Moreover, Gokulam Gopalan for Sree Gokulam Movies will be distributing the effort on Kerala’s big screens which is a production company expecting to present great films for its industry.
‘Bagheera’ is an action superhero thriller directed by Dr. Suri, based on a story by Prashanth Neel, who has conceived movies like KGF Franchise and Salaar. The effort is bankrolled by Vijay Kiragandur for Hombale films.
However, the repetition in the storyline, the superhero concept, and Hollywood inspirations are the challenges for such an effort. Also, the previous flicks with such genres were well-received so this new one is expected to do something distinctive.
‘Lucky Baskhar’ is an upcoming Indian Telugu-language drama thriller film written and directed by Venky Atluri. The film is produced by S. Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under Sithara Entertainments, Fortune Four Cinema, and Srikara Studios.
The storyline is expected to have a connection with the Indian audience concerning the location and background where the story occurs. It tells the story of an ordinary person who started from scratch thereby becoming a mysterious one.
Meanwhile, actor Dulquer Salmaan, who is playing the titular character in the flick has played a more similar role as Sudhakara Kurup in a Malayalam movie ‘Kurup’ (2021), directed by Srinath Rajendran that was based on a real-life story of ‘Sukumara Kurup’, who is still a fugitive for an incident in a death insurance scam.
Apart from the challenge of the similar character arc and content repetition, the consecutive box office loss by the actor’s films is a huge challenge despite having higher hype and expectations.
As per credible reports, all three movies have received great amounts in the satellite and pre-release on the big screens both from Kerala and other industries that are establishing a pan-Indian nature.
However, according to predictions based on reliable statistics, ‘Amaran’ has a more probable chance of becoming the box office winner in Mollywood followed by ‘Lucky Baskhar’ and thereby Bagheera respectively.
