The success or failure of any project is always a learning experience albeit it hurts in the initial moment. The former can be an achievement in the film industry that can lead to further materials like sequels, short stories, or any such kind. Bollywood is the best example of such universes that are primarily meant for commercial success and most of them become a success concerning the production cost.
However, what if an exactly opposite condition occurs? Will the dream get shattered? Or can it do something remarkable? This is when the time will come to give the effort a second chance. This has been profoundly made achievable in the Malayalam film industry.
‘Aadu’ (The Goat) is a 2015 Indian slapstick comedy film, written and directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas. It was an adaptation from the Guy Richie film “Snatch” where the dog and diamond were replaced by the Goat and “Neela Koduveli”. It was produced and distributed by Vijay Babu through Friday Film House.
Unfortunately, the film didn’t receive better responses due to factors like lack of promotion and marketing. Nevertheless, the film after some months was released in the Digital Video Disc (DVD) format and a lot of people started buying and watching it. It received such a humongous response that it thereby had to be re-released in the theatres again in 2018.
The flick was praised for its unconventional approach to storytelling, detailed character description for each one apart from the lead role, and creating a cult nature among the audiences.
Followed by the reception of the second chance, the crew decided to make another installment in the name of ‘Aadu 2’ hence becoming the most awaited movie of Kerala during the expected year of release. Simultaneously, the movie was well-received and became a great commercial success.
Midhun Manual Thomas, the writer-director of the franchise, who has also given versatile movies like ‘Aan Maria Kalipilaanu’, ‘Anjaam Pathiraa’, ‘Abraham Ozler’, etc. said once, “I couldn’t make any alterations as per what the commercial aspect wanted. I owe the freedom in what I wanted to create for good. That was the only thought when me and my crew decided to make such an experiment”.
The recent update of the franchise regarding the completion of the script for its third installment named ‘Aadu 3: One Last Ride’ has been announced and the audience as well as the fans are highly excited and enthralled for its big-screen release. This is reported to be the last and final movie in the franchise.
In a nutshell, if a person can take risks, and is applying in the world of cinema, it is not unfortunate to have instant success, but sometimes a second chance has the potential to make miracles.
