The time has come when Barroz: Guardian of Tresures releases on OTT. The fantasy film marks the directorial debut of superstar Mohanlal, who also plays the title role. Released in theaters on December 25, 2024, the movie came out to be an absolute disaster.
The story revolves around Barroz, a 400-year-old spirit who guards Vasco da Gama’s legendary treasure. His mission is to find a true descendant of Vasco da Gama who is worthy of inheriting it. The film explores themes of loyalty, destiny, and the value of legacy.
The film received highly negative reviews overall. Many viewers felt the screenplay and performances didn’t meet the high expectations set by the film’s premise and budget. Despite a production cost of ₹150 crore, Barroz came out as a disaster and earned less than ₹20 crore.
Of course it is a massive failure and we can’t say that it deserved anything better.
Fans of Mohanlal can soon watch Barroz at home. It is set to stream on Disney+ Hotstar from January 22, 2025, available in multiple languages in Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. We are pretty sure that it won’t impress the OTT audience but uncertainties are always unannounced. Let’s see how the film gets received.
