Can ARM Be Equally Successful On OTT?

The Malayalam film industry is dominating 2024. From Manjummel Boys and Aavesham to Bramayugam and The Goat Life, they have delivered box office hits back to back leaving the audience in awe.

With captivating stories, compelling characters, stunning cinematography, and perfect music, these films keep audiences hooked. Once, fans lined up outside theatres for the latest release; now, they wait eagerly for films to drop on OTT platforms, always ready for the next hit or happily rewatching the older ones.

The release of these films on OTT has elevated them from local favourites to national sensations.

One such blockbuster is the action-adventure – ARM. Jithin Lal’s debut film was called the perfect fairytale. It had exceptional world-building, amazingly written characters and storylines, engaging narratives and mesmerising music. No wonder it was a hit in the theatres.

Stories from the ground impact the audience better, especially in a culturally rich country like India.

The southern film industries seem to have cracked the code on how to blend action and folklore beautifully – as we have seen in films like Kantara, Bramayugam and Jallikattu.

A good movie reaches the people by any means possible but OTT makes them more accessible. A wonderful film like ARM, which stirred up audiences in movie halls, has a high chance of making an impact on OTT.

However, licensed films like these often don’t receive the same attention on OTT platforms as the platform’s own original productions. This can lead to concerns that a gem like ARM may go unnoticed due to limited marketing and exposure. If correct strategies are implemented and the platform invests in a Hindi dub for the film, it could have a much better chance of reaching a wider audience.

Stream the film on Disney+Hotstar starting 8th November.
