Nivin Pauly is preparing for a new chapter in his career with Pharma, his first web series. The Malayalam medical thriller looks at the hidden side of the pharmaceutical world and how business decisions can affect the lives of ordinary patients. The makers released the trailer on December 5 and also confirmed a new date for its digital launch. Pharma will start streaming on JioHotstar from December 19. To reach more viewers across India, the series will also be available in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali and Marathi along with Malayalam.
The trailer introduces Nivin Pauly as KP Vinod, a young medical sales representative who is trying to make a mark in a demanding industry. At first, Vinod struggles to convince doctors and hospitals to buy his company’s new drug KydoXin. After he manages to sell it, he learns that the medicine has caused serious side effects for patients. This raises an important question about whether people are careful enough about the medicines they use and what can go wrong when profit becomes more important than safety.
Pharma features a strong cast that includes Rajit Kapur, Narain, Veena Nandakumar, Shruti Ramachandran, Muthumani and Aalekh Kapoor. The series is written and directed by P R Arun. The cinematography is by Abhinandan Ramanujam, with editing by Sreejith Sarang and music by Jakes Bejoy. Nivin has appeared on OTT before in the film Kanakam Kaamini Kalaham but Pharma marks his debut in a series. After a delay from its earlier expected release, the show is finally ready to reach viewers with a tense and emotional story.
