The reward for achieving something is a huge motivation for human minds. The more invaluable the award, the more the intention to perform something big. With the voices raising the names of Indian Cinema for the greatest Academy Awards, Binged would like to suggest a movie that speaks about the efforts to achieve such an award and much more.
‘And The Oscar Goes To’ is a 2019 Malayalam drama film written and directed by Salim Ahamed. The movie is bankrolled by Prashanthakumar Chandran, T P Sudheesh, and the director himself. The technical labour includes the handling of cinematography by Madhu Ambat, editing overseen by Vijay Shankar, sound designed by Resul Pookutty, and music composed by Bijibal.
The story revolves around a young man named Issak Ibrahim, who wants to become a film director. Issak decides to direct and co-produce a film based on a previous screenplay based on the life of his native Moidukka. Following several accolades like the national award despite financial issues, Issak tries to submit the film for the Academy Award or the ‘Oscars’ in the Best Foreign Film category.
Actor Tovino Thomas plays the main lead in the film as Issak Ibrahim, alongside actors Sreenivasan, Lal, Anu Sithara, Salim Kumar, Siddique, Nikki Rae Hallow, Santhosh Keezhattoor, and others in important roles.
The crux of the story is based on the real-life experience of the director, who has won an award for the national award for the best feature film category, and his efforts to send the picture for the Oscars. This shows the processes and constraints in screening films for the Academy Awards along with describing the human conflicts and relationships.
Actors Tovino Thomas, Siddique, and Salim Kumar have done stellar performances for the film. The screenplay seems mixed level albeit the story is a real-life-inspired one.
The movie is streaming on the ZEE 5 and Aha Telugu OTT platform.
