All diehard movie buffs must already be aware of the entertainment website Letterboxd, an Auckland-based movies-centric social platform for passionate cinephiles. The platform is well known for its various movies-centric international lists such as year-wise ‘Top 50 Movies’ lists and ‘One Million’ & ‘Two Million’ watched lists, etc.

And in a fantastic piece of news for Indian cinephiles, we are delighted to let you know that two Indian films have already cracked the coveted Letterboxd Top 50 international films list for 2024. And the names of these two Indian movies are Sundance 2024 Audience Award winner ‘Girls Will Be Girls’ (Rank 13) and Sriram Raghavan’s ‘Merry Christmas’ (Rank 19). Currently, these two films are not streaming on an Indian OTT platform. Stay tuned to Binged for their OTT release dates.

Since the year 2024 has just begun, there are just nineteen films from across the globe which have been included in the said Letterboxd list. The Letterbox top 50 list has been topped by another Sundance winner – the comedy drama ‘Didi’ (Rank 1), followed by the comedy film ‘Thelma’ (Rank 2), and Jesse Eisenberg’s ‘A Real Pain’ (Rank 3), amongst others.

About the films:

Girls Will Be Girls: Essentially a story based on the seldom explored territory of the contemporary mother-daughter relationship, Shuchi Talati’s directorial film takes place in a posh boarding school in a small hill town located in the Himalayas and the plot revolves around a rebellious sixteen-year-old girl named Mira and her distressed yet loving relationship with her mother.

Merry Christmas: The mystery thriller movie revolves around how an incident on Christmas day drastically changes the lives of the two lead characters (played by Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi) and how their romantic encounter turns into a nightmare for them.
