29 Years Of Thalapathy Vijay: Does Vijay Deserve All The Hype?

It is one day shy of 29 years since Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay made his debut with Naalaya Theerpu, and little did Tamil cinema, and Vijay himself know that he would go on to become one of the icons of the Tamil film industry. With blockbusters like Kushi, Ghilli, and Pokkiri, Vijay’s career had been on an upward spike all along. But the real break came with Thuppakki which catapulted Vijay to superstardom. Thuppakki grossed over Rs 100 crores at the box office, which was an unprecedented feat for any Tamil hero not named Rajinikanth. Vijay staked his claim as the true emperor of the Tamil box office with Thuppakkki, a Murugadoss directorial.

As it turned out Thuppakki was just a promo of what was to come. Two films later, Vijay collaborated with Murugadoss again and this time around, for Kaththi. This intense social drama was a box office blockbuster and was termed as one of the path breaking films in Tamil cinema. The unique blend of commercial elements with a strong social message served the film very well and it added a whole new dimension to Vijay’s stardom.

All four of Vijay’s previous films namely Mersal, Sarkar, Bigil, and Master were all box office blockbusters regardless of the critic reviews or the word of mouth. Vijay raced past his counterpart Ajith Kumar to sit on the top chair. As Rajinikanth‘s career graph kept declining, Vijay, with box office blockbuster to show for, started to emerge as the face of Tamil cinema.

The good thing about Vijay is that he always strives to provide the very best to his fans and followers. Also, he focuses on films that cater to the younger section of the audience. His recent film, Master, and his upcoming film Beast both cater to the younger generation of the audience. Vijay is now set to venture into the Telugu market as he recently announced Thalapathy 66, which will be his maiden straight Telugu film. With a calculative and fan-pleasing approach, Thalapathy Vijay is showing how it’s done. Does Vijay Deserve All The Hype? He most certainly does.
