Last weekend has been a promising one for the Telugu OTT audience as not one or two, but three outings premiered on OTT. The list includes Akhanda, Shyam Singha Roy, and Loser 2. While Akhanda is a proper action thriller film featuring Balakrishna in the central role, Shyam Singha Roy is a periodic drama with Nani and Sai Pallavi in the lead roles. Loser 2 is a ZEE5 original drama series.
Akhanda got off to a great start on Disney+ Hotstar. The action drama registered good viewership through the course of the weekend on OTT. Those who love proper commercial potboilers with loads of action, and don’t mind the customary logical flaws can give this film a try and it is likely to fulfill their cravings for ‘mass action’.
Shyam Singha Roy is a periodic drama with a compelling flashback episode. Nani and Sai Pallavi excel in their roles in this Rahul Sankrityan directorial. The film has its share of flaws, but it can certainly make for a relatively decent watch on OTT. The film can be streamed on Netflix.
Lastly, we have Loser 2, the second season of ZEE5‘s original drama series – Loser. This season focuses more on drama and less on its USP – sports drama. The drama unfolds at its own pace and a few might find it tiring, but those who don’t mind the slow-paced narration and enjoy subtle emotional highs will like what this series has to offer. The emotional drama is directed by Abhilash Reddy and it has Priyadarshi, Kalpika, Harshith, Shashank, and others in the lead roles.
While none of the 3 outings in the Telugu OTT space might be perfect to the T, but they cater to the target audience and can be termed reasonably good options for Telugu OTT audiences who are in search of fresh content.
