3 Indian Films Bag Awards at Busan International Film Festival 2022

Today was the last day of the 27th edition of the prestigious Busan International Film Festival aka BIFF, which kicked off earlier this month from 5th October at Busan city located in South Korea. More than 350 films were showcased at BIFF 2022. The opening film was ‘Scent of Wind’ from Iran and the closing film would be the Japanese movie ‘A Man’. The list included several Indian titles as well. Now that the festival winners of have been announced, here are the Indian films which managed to win at BIFF 2022.

Shivamma – New Currents Award Winner

Directed by Jaishankar Aryar, the movie revolves around the sole breadwinner for her poor family Shivamma. She works in an energy drink company Nuracle and strives hard to support her ill husband and her kids. ‘Shivamma’ shares this award with Lee Jeong-hong’s South Korean film ‘A Wild Roomer’.

The Winter Within – KB New Currents Audience Award Winner

Directed by Aamir Bashir (A Wednesday, Sacred Games), the Kashmir-set film follows a woman named Nargis, who is desperately searching for her missing husband, who was arrested by the authorities. She is offered help by Yaseen, who is romantically inclined towards her, But the story takes an interesting turn when her husband Manzoor suddenly comes back.

While We Watched – Busan Cinephile Award

Helmed by Vinay Shukla (Director – An Insignificant Man), the documentary film focuses on veteran reporter Ravish Kumar and chronicle his working days as he navigates through various challenges in the field of journalism.
