Netflix finally dropped the highly anticipated trailer of Minnal Murali on YouTube yesterday… and it was brilliant. The Netflix India released trailer is currently trending #1 in India and has already amassed over 6 million views. However, with everything that was happening in the trailer, many of the subtleties would have been missed by most of the viewers. So here are 3 things you missed while checking out the trailer for the first Malayalam superhero film.
Christmas
The film is expected to drop on Christmas eve and now we know why – our protagonist gets struck by lightning during Christmas. How do we know this? Well, Tovino Thomas‘character was wearing a Santa Claus suit at the time. And it looks like Christmas is not the only major festival event that he turns up in.
Covid Mask
Unless you are one of the few Superheroes who don’t need to cover their face like Dr. Manhattan, Thor or even Superman, you need a mask to protect your identity. And according to Bruce Wayne, it is to protect the people you care about.
However, in Minnal Murali, our lead character is seen wearing a Covid mask over his face as a way to protect his identity – which should be as effective as Clark Kent’s glasses. Is this supposed to be a dig at their on-set Covid 19 issues? Or the pandemic itself? Because we are definitely laughing.
An Unoriginal Origin Film?
Similar to the Sam Raimi Spider-Man and DC’s Shazam, our film lead goes about testing out his lightning powers. As usual, we see some funny testing mintage onscreen and also some well-known superhero name-drops. Since the “graphics game” in Mollywood is not up to Hollywood standards, we are pretty sure that we will not get a generic CGI battle anytime soon.
Minnal Murali will premiere on Netflix on Christmas eve, on 24th December 2021. Check out the trailer again, below:
