3 Thought-Provoking Films On Bhagat Singh To Stream On Martyr’s Day

23rd March is the cursed day when Bhagat Singh along with Raj Guru and Sukhdev were hanged. This date is remembered every year as Martyr’s Day to pay tribute to the life sacrifice of the three freedom fighters. We understand that reading books is not everyone’s cup of tea and films are a great medium to learn about their ideologies.

So today instead of talking solely about biopics, we’ll share our recommendations on the films that talk about the ideologies and values of the legendary freedom fighter.

The Legend Of Bhagat Singh- Prime Video/Netflix/Jio Cinema/Voot
Ajay Devgn played the role of Bhagat Singh in this iconic film. Although this is a biopic but not a simple life story, it talks about the psyche of Bhagat Singh that shaped him to become who he really was.

Be it his ideologies or rigid nature, everything is captured beautifully by Rajkumar Santoshi. The music of the film was given by AR Rahman and is still a blessing to the ears.

Rang De Basanti- Netflix
The film is highly innovative and something very unusual to regular Bollywood films. Despite new experiments, the film was a huge hit particularly the music by AR Rahman.

It talked about the ideologies of Bhagat Singh in independent India. A bunch of friends hijack a radio station to tell truth to the country about a corrupt politician. Needless to say, they are projected as terrorists just like Bhagat Singh was by the British government.

The film is anything but black and white in its message, it gives us room to decide which side is correct and that’s the most brilliant job the director could do. It has a lot of references from the life of Bhagat Singh and the youth of the nation must watch the film.

The performances by Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi, R Madhavan and everyone including the legendary Waheeda Rehman is something to marvel at.

Sardar Udham- Prime Video
We understand that the film is a biopic on Sardar Udham and not Bhagat Singh. But the scenes played by Amol Parashar as Bhagat Singh are the heart of the film. The film preaches about the difference between revolution and terrorism and is extremely thoughtful. Sardar Udham was deeply influenced by Bhagat Singh and the film explains the reason behind it. The screenplay of the film is very slow and it requires patience to watch it.

But it is undoubtedly one of the most gruesome and impactful films to be ever made. This is a must-watch film and extremely important to celebrate what Bhagat Singh stood for.
