With the reception of films like ‘Soorarai Pottru’, ‘Drishyam 2’, ‘Narappa’, ‘Malik’ and ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’; OTT platforms have realized the value in spending big on South Indian content. The Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam film industries have started to attract the attention of major International streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar and they in turn have started to buy up the streaming rights of many upcoming South Indian films. This means a lot of these South Indian flicks will be released directly for streaming. So, today we are going to check out 4 buzzy South Indian films which are releasing directly for streaming this year:

Bhramam
This Andhadhun remake promises to break from the shot-for-shot mold, which was set by another Andhadhun remake, Maestro. The trailer for this upcoming film released a couple of days back and while there are a lot of elements in this trailer that reminds us of the Hindi original – we expect a film that will take us in a different direction.

The Malayalam film, Bhramam, will be released directly on Amazon Prime Video on 7th October 2021.

Udanpirappe
This upcoming Tamil family drama stars Jyothika and actor-director Sasikumar in the lead roles. It will be the second Tamil film made by Suriya’s 2D Entertainment as part of its four-film deal with Amazon Prime Video. While we do not know when the film will be released, this highly anticipated movie is expected to drop on the aforementioned OTT platform in the coming months.

Minnal Murali
Mollywood’s first ever superhero film will premiere on an OTT platform this Christmas eve. The movie has been a long time coming (more than 2 years of waiting) and it finally has a release date. The film boasts a brilliant cast of Tovino Thomas, Guru Somasundaram, Harisree Ashokan, Aju Varghese, Mammukoya, Femina George, Bijukuttan and Baiju Santhosh.

The Malayalam film, Minnal Murali, will release directly on Netflix on 24th December 2021.

Jai Bhim
This Surya starrer is possibly the most anticipated direct-to-OTT film of the year. A courtroom drama, Jai Bhim will be a film based on the current social issue of caste division as well as its political relevance. Surya will star as Chandru, who will be fighting for justice for a woman belonging to the Irula tribe.

The Tamil film, Jai Bhim, will be released directly on Amazon Prime Video for streaming in November.
