European Football showcases some of the best talents from around the globe and it garners the most attention for the sport (not as much as the World Cup however). While the French League is the least popular league among the “Big 5” European Leagues, they still has one of the best football team’s in the world. While the Spanish, Italian and German leagues have die-hard fans all around the world, the English football league is by far, the most-watched league in the world. The English Game
This Netflix streaming series is set in Great Britain, during the late 1870s. Football is considered to be a sport for the upper class and wealthy, especially since they have been winning continuously against the lower classes, for a long time. Enter two prodigies, from both sides of the fence and their face-off, will spark a change in the sport that will change it forever.
Galactik Football
Normally Captain Tsubasa would be our animation series of choice when football is the sport of interest, but since the Japanese anime is not available for viewing within the country, the French animated series will have to make do. Unlike the normal 11-a-side football, this intergalactic sport (yes, this sport is played by different planets) is played with teams having 7 players each. The series follows a young, inexperienced team called Snow Kids who aim to win the Galactik Football Cup. Check out this series on YouTube.
Take Us Home: Leads United
Many football documentaries have caught our eyes and nearly all of them (including this one) are available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video. However this underdog story is one of our favourites and hence that’s why we are recommending it to you. This brilliant fly-on-the-wall documentary series follows a mid-level English football team, Leed United, in the English League 2, who hope against all odds to win the league and go up, into the English Tier 1 football – The Premier League.
Ted Lasso
This Apple+ TV series is an American comedy series about football – yes, you read that right – AMERICAN. Surprisingly good show. We follow a small-time American football coach Ted Lasso, who is hired to coach a professional football club eam in England, Richmond. While the coach is well-liked and has a happy-go-lucky attitude, his appointment rubs everyone the wrong way, especially since he has no prior experience in coaching football.
