4 Indian Films Crack Rotten Tomatoes 3+ Hours 100 Best Movies List

Reviews aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes has revealed a list of the best 100 movies of all time which carry a runtime of three hours or more. The portal has ranked these top 100 movies as per their inhouse Tomatometer scores.

The 1954 epic adventure movie ‘Seven Samurai’ (Rank 1) has topped the list which comprises some other fine films such as ‘Schindler’s List’ (Rank 5), ‘The Godfather 2’ (Rank 8), ‘Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King’ (23), and ‘Apocalypse Now (Rank 24), to name a few.

As far as Indian cinema is concerned, four Indian movies have cracked the aforementioned Rotten Tomatoes 3+ hours top 100 movies international list. And the name of these four Indian films with a runtime of 3 hours or more are S.S. Rajamouli’s period actioner ‘RRR’ (Rank 12), Ashutosh Gowariker’s sports drama ‘Lagaan’ (Rank 13), Richard Attenborough’s Oscar winning film ‘Gandhi’ (Rank 32), and Anurag Kashyap’s rustic action drama ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ (Rank 70).

RRR (Streaming on Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, Zee5)

Helmed by S.S Rajamouli, the period action movie ‘RRR’ features Ram Charan and Jr.NTR in the lead roles and Ajay Devgn, and Alia Bhatt in pivotal roles. The film is a fictional tale set in the 1920s that revolves around two legendary Indian revolutionaries namely Alluri Sitarama Raju (played by Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (played by Jr. NTR).

Lagaan (Streaming on Netflix)

The Oscar-nominated sports drama was set in the 1890s period amidst the backdrop of a small, drought-stricken central Indian village Champaner. The story follows a charismatic villager Bhuvan (Aamir Khan), who accepts a seemingly absurd challenge by an arrogant British commander Russel (Paul Blackthrone) to defeat the British team in a high-stakes cricket match, to get rid of paying high taxes.

Gandhi (Streaming on Epic ON)

The Oscar winning film is based on the extraordinary life and struggles of Mahatma Gandhi and includes important events such as the South African train incident and his subsequent role in the Indian independence movement. Ben Kingsley had essayed the titular role of Mahatma Gandhi and Richard Attenborough, who had later played the role of theme park owner in Jurassic Park, had directed the film.

Gangs of Wasseypur (Streaming on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Voot, Epic ON)

The film’s story revolves around a fierce rivalry between a gangster and a coal mining kingpin. The movie boasted an ensemble cast including stellar actors like Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Rajkumar Yadav, Jaideep Ahlawat, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Richa Chaddha, and Huma Qureshi amongst others.
