Hotstar is on a killing spree. They are coming up with 4 original Indian series within a span of 3 weeks which is kinda insane. Normally, OTT platforms release 1 original series in a month and here they are.
This spree began on 7th July when they dropped Bed Stories starring Sanjay Mishra. Binged reported that this is one of a kind event as Disney+Hotstar didn’t even post a single tweet/video regarding the show. There was absolutely no promotion whatsoever but that is what happened nonetheless.
Next week i.e. 15th July, they came up with Shoorveer which is another high octane project. It has started streaming and features intense action with good quality visuals. So it was the second series.
Next in the pipeline is the second season of the highly popular Telugu series Parampara. It will be released on 21st July and will be the third series. It might very well be the most successful series amongst the ongoing slate.
The next series will drop just a day after Parampara Season 2. We are talking about Ghar Waapsi. The series is based on a man who loses his job in COVID and comes back home to understand the nature of family in the true sense.
This killer spree of Disney+Hotstar is good or bad for another conversation, but it is certainly concerning. Other platforms are nowhere close to them as they are sticking with the one series a month formula.
In this case, they are threatened by the diversity of the shows as well as the consistency. Imagine getting 3 decent shows in a month or only one average show a month. Naturally, one would be more inclined towards the platform which is more frequent in their production.
After all, no one apart from Prime Video is giving away great quality shows. Even talking about Prime Video, then only Suzhal and Panchayat Season 2 have caught the eye as Modern Love was pretty average.
So it is an alarming situation for other platforms. It would be interesting to see how they retaliate.
