With the releases of Malayalam big-budget features ‘Kurup‘ and ‘Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea‘, it is easy to forget that Mollywood has been releasing some brilliant low-to-medium budget features in the last decade. ‘Drishyam 2’, ‘Kumbalangi Nights’ and ‘Premam’ are some excellent examples of this. And the unique Malayalam feature that is coming out next is the sports drama, ‘Muddy‘… and it is coming out tomorrow. So before the film drops in theatres tomorrow, here are 4 things you need to know about it:
A Different Kind Of Sport Film
We have seen many different kinds of Indian sports drama on-screen – boxing, wrestling, cricket, hockey, football; you name it, we have done it. However, this is not just a different type of sports film, it is a different race film altogether. A film about mud racing.
First Of Its Kind
Remember, when we said that Indians have made a sports film about any sport (mentioned just above). Well, it turns out that this is the first Indian film to feature the sport of mud racing. Hopefully, the filmmakers will do the sport justice.
Not A Small Film
While we were talking previously about how small budget Malayalam films are capable of being huge successes, this feature is no small film. In fact, this movie has a budget somewhere in between Rs. 25 and 30 crores. A medium-budget film, but even medium budget films have done well in the past. We just hope that the budget has been put to good use.
Cast
This film features a relatively unknown cast. Yuvan Krishna, Ridhaan Krishna, Suresh Anusha and Hareesh Peradi are relative unknowns. Only Ranji Panicker is the “known actor” among them and he too will not be well known outside of Kerala. So everything is riding on the quality of the film.
Muddy will premiere in theatres tomorrow, on 10th December 2021. Check out the trailer below:
