4 Things To Know Before Watching ‘The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf’

The Witcher‘ is one of Netflix’s most-watched TV shows of all time (the most-watched at one point). While the second season of this beloved series is still three months away, a spin-off film, based on another Witcher, Vesemir, will drop next week. So before you guys check out this new film, here’s everything you need to know before you watch it, coming Monday:

South Korean Animation
Unlike the web series and its “live-action nature”, this Netflix film will be a South Korean animated film. This means we will be getting much better action and fight sequences. The upcoming South Korean-American adult animated dark fantasy film will, however, have to sacrifice some of the realism from the original series.

The “Geralt” Connection
The film is not exactly a complete spin-off; we are getting an early look at one of the more important characters of the second season of ‘The Witcher’ – Geralt’s mentor, Vesemir. He is the one who taught Geralt how to be a Witcher and he will help Geralt in training Ciri as well. In this film, we will get a look at who Vesemir was before he met Geralt – and what kind of a person was he.

The Witcher Creation
The film will give the Netflix audience an idea about the actual process behind becoming a witcher. The process has a 30% success rate, leaving only 3 out of 10 boys alive at the end of the “Witcher trials”. It is a painful process, but one necessary to push the species forward for Witchers are created, not born. By showing this process in the movie, it will also cut down the time to explain the Witcher creation process in the main series.

The Backstory Behind The Hatred
At the very beginning of the ‘Witcher’ series, it is widely known that Witchers are dangerous and it is best to avoid them. While Witchers face stigma, other creatures which are not human receives hate as well – monsters, elves, sprites, even mages. The film will give us a deeper backstory behind this hate and how it all started.

The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf‘ will premier on Netflix next Monday, on 23rd August 2021. Check out the official trailer below:
