Marvel’s web series right now is one of the best things out there for comics and Marvel fans. Us, fans are being spoilt with content every other month with something or the other. It all started in January with WandaVision and Marvel has been able to maintain the streak thoroughly and completely with all of its newly released shows. Currently, the one that is on air is Marvel Studio’s first animated series “What If…?”. But besides that, Marvel has a lot more in store and one that has been recently making a lot of buzz is Marvel’s “Moon Knight” series.
Moon Knight will be one of the most legendary characters to be portrayed on screens after so many characters debuting on screen. Moon Knight stars Oscar Isaac in the titular role, along with Ethan Hawke playing an antagonistic role. Not much has been revealed about who Ethan Hawke will be portraying but in a recent interview, one word that Oscar Isaac used to describe Moon Knight was- “groundbreaking”.
Now, we have gone back into comics and brought some points that could be used in Marvel’s “Moon Knight” to make it groundbreaking.
Jewish Roots
According to comics, Marc Spector, aka Moon Knight has been Jewish all his life. He went against his father, who was a rabbi himself, to become a mercenary not become the next rabbi in the family. Even though his Jewish roots had a huge impact on him, he left all that when he became a mercenary. Now, it will be interesting to see, how such an integral part of Marc Spector’s life is brought on to the screen. It would be groundbreaking if the creators inculcate because not only Marc Spector is one of those few Jewish superheroes in Marvel, but also a superhero, who has had “religion” as an important part of his life. This hasn’t been the case with any other Marvel superhero before.
Mental Health Status
Now, it’s a known fact that almost all the superheroes that Marvel portrays have some kind of trauma in them. It is that very trauma that has helped them in becoming the heroes, or Avengers we know today. There were clear examples of how Marvel Studios’ films showed Tony Stark having symptoms of PTSD to Marvel’s Netflix show “Jessica Jones”, where Jessica too showed clear symptoms of PTSD. It was only in “Falcon and The Winter Soldier”, where Bucky was clearly seen consulting a therapist. Now, for Moon Knight, it is assumed that he suffers from “Dissociative Identity Disorder” and hence he takes on various roles and aliases whenever he is out in the public. Reportedly, this might come to play a lot for Marvel’s upcoming series.
Godly Connections
Most of the superheroes in Marvel that we have witnessed so far are either trained, made themselves into that, or were born with it. All these people don’t have any sort of “Godly” connections when it comes to their superheroes. But for Moon Knight, there is, because Marc Spector only could become Moon Knight, when he was dying and the Egyptian God “Khonshu” showed up and gave him a second chance at life, along with superhuman abilities. This makes Marc Spector’s “Moon Knight” a tad bit more unique than every other in the MCU currently.
Marvel’s Answer to Batman
Yup, that’s right. There has been a rumor, or rather almost an “allegation” that Marvel created “Moon Knight” inspired by DC’s Batman. Time and again it has been proved wrong in the comic world, but we can understand where this comes out from. Moon Knight is seen as a vigilante who protects the people of his city at night, just like Batman. He is considered a rich man, who uses his wealth to make him equipped and stronger, again like Batman. Also, just like how Batman has a signature silhouette, Moon Knight is spotted with his version of the silhouette.
But now, everything will come down to this series because representing it on the screen will be a key thing for Marvel and to differentiate Batman and Moon Knight. So, yes with all these intense things in mind, we can say that Marvel has the potential to make it “groundbreaking”.
Moon Knight is expected to release in 2022, but no month or date has been confirmed as of yet. The filming for Moon Knight is still underway and going on at full speed in various locations. For further updates on Marvel series and films, along with Marvel, keep an eye out for Binged.com.
