5 Dark Comedy Crime Films to Watch Before Hotstar’s Good Luck Jerry

Disney+ Hotstar upcoming dark comedy crime film ‘Good Luck Jerry’ starring Janhvi Kapoor in the lead role is all set to start streaming on the OTT platform from 29th July onwards. For this article, we have compiled a list of five must-watch movies of the dark comedy crime genre which you can stream on various OTT platforms in India. We have tried to include a mix of popular films and relatively underappreciated ones. Happy Bingeing.

Andhadhun, 2018 (Streaming on Netflix + Jio)

Perhaps the most obvious inclusion in this list. Helmed by Sriram Raghavan, the film’s beautifully complex plot follows a blind pianist (Ayushmann Khurrana), who gets an offer from a once-famous actor (Anil Dhawan) to perform a private concert for him at his place. The pianist happily accepts but gets more than what he had bargained for. When he reaches the place, he finds his wife (Tabu) instead of the husband. Blessed with a terrific, mind-bending climactic revelation, the movie also featured Radhika Apte, Manav Vij, Zakir Hussain, and Ashwini Kalsekar in interesting roles.

Barah Aana, 2009 (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video, MX Player)

Helmed by Raja Menon, the movie revolves around three ordinary working-class persons – a driver (Naseeruddin Shah), a watchman (Vijay Raaz), and a young waiter (Arjun Mathur) who live in modern-day Mumbai. After their chance encounter with a petty crime, the three friends decide to venture into small-scale kidnapping activities to improve their finances, but the situation soon goes out of control.

Delhi Belly, 2011 (Streaming on Netflix)

Backed by Aamir Khan and directed by Abhinay Deo, the story follows the lives of three Delhi-based struggling roommates Tashi (Imran Khan), Arup (Vir Das), and Nitin (Kunaal Roy Kapur). When Tashi is asked by his girlfriend to deliver a mysterious package, the seemingly simple task leads to a comedy-of-errors situation and the three friends become the target of a dreaded criminal organization.

Super Deluxe, 2019 (Streaming on Netflix & Aha Video)

The critically acclaimed film narrates parallel stories featuring a transgender woman, a disloyal wife, an angry son, a distressed couple, and a religious man. How these characters from different walks of life find themselves in impossible situations and how these stories converge on a fateful day forms the film’s crux. The movie features an ensemble cast that includes Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Ramya, amongst others.

Mumbai Xpress, 2005 (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video, SonyLIV, MX Player)

The movie stars veteran actor Kamal Haasan in the role of a daredevil bike stuntman, who reluctantly agrees to team up with three small-time crooks. Their mission is to kidnap the son of an affluent family for ransom, but things take an amusing turn when they learn that they have kidnapped the wrong boy. The movie also featured Manisha Koirala as the female lead.
