After delivering two blockbuster films ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan’ this year, Shah Rukh Khan is all geared up for his third film of the year – ‘Dunki’, which is out in theatres from today. The movie has been directed by none other than the supremely talented Rajkumar Hirani.
As you all know, the basic story of ‘Dunki’ ostensibly revolves around a backdoor immigration route known as Donkey Flight, which is used by some people to settle in some foreign countries. Many of you might not be aware that before Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Dunki’ got its official title, the film was previously titled ‘Return Ticket’ and ‘Toss’.

In the song ‘Lutt Putt Gaya’, Shah Rukh Khan is seen dancing on a mini-airplane. The airplane is actually a water tank because in some villages in Punjab, water tanks are made in various interesting shapes. The house owners make these kinds of water tanks to show their pride that a family member(s) has gone abroad to earn or live there.

As per a report, there is an interesting connection between ‘Dunki’ and another one of SRK’s films. We are talking about the 2014 multi-starrer movie ‘Happy New Year’ which was directed by Farah Khan. In an interview, the choreographer turned filmmaker revealed that the earlier version of ‘Happy New Year’ was somewhat similar to the story of ‘Dunki’. But that version of the film was apparently rejected by SRK as he did not like it.

A portion of ‘Dunki’ has been shot by Rajkumar Hirani in a real-life prison. The film’s crew was instructed by the prison staff to not interact or disturb the prisoners during the filming schedule.

‘Dunki’ has been made on a modest production cost of Rs.85 crores but this does not include the cast and crew fees. So, it’s one of the lowest budget Shah Rukh Khan films in recent years. The film’s overall budget was Rs.120 crores and the film’s shoot was completed in just 75 days.
