5 Malayalam Movies To Check Out This Weekend

With the New Year approaching fast, more and more Malayalam films are releasing in theatres and OTTs alike, every week. And this weekend is no different. Many big films will drop on OTTs this week (or have already dropped) and a few more will make their way to theatres. So for the Mollywood fans who are reading, here are five Malayalam films to check out this weekend:

Kaaval
The first movie on this list is a Suresh Gopi starrer that has been running in theatres for a couple of weeks now. The film is considered a commercial and financial success, so it is a movie worth checking out this weekend. For those of you who do not want to go to the theatres to watch this movie, wait for one more week – it will start streaming on Netflix on 22nd December 2021.

Sumesh & Ramesh
The only comedy feature to be a part of this list, ‘Sumesh and Ramesh‘ has been running in theatres for one week now. While critics have not found much substance in this film, the entertainment value of the film comes from its situational comedy. Check out the film in theatres, if interested.

Kurup
The most “successful” Malayalam film of the year, ‘Kurup‘ is an audience entertainer through and through. The film has been made available for streaming on Netflix so check it out once you get the time. It focuses on India’s longest missing fugitive, Sukumara Kurup.

Marakkar: Lion of The Arabian Sea
The most expensive Malayalam film of all time isn’t doing so well in theatres. While many have called the film a visual spectacle, the screenplay has been called atrocious by multiple critics. The film is now making its way to OTT, with many expecting the film to release on Amazon Prime Video on December 17th 2021 in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.

Muddy
This film has just been released in theatres and is the first sports film of its kind in India. Based on the sport of 4×4 mud racing, this action-packed thriller will focus on two brothers who are at odds with each other being forced to work together to win an important competition.
