Wild Tales: Segment ‘Pasternak’ (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video)
Wild Tales is a gripping Spanish language anthology movie that consists of six standalone short films connected by their violent and dark themes. The anthology’s opening segment ‘Pasternak’ aka ‘The Rats’ follows the passengers of an airplane who have one thing in common. They know a man named Gabriel Pasternak. Is this a coincidence or something more sinister?
The edge-of-the-seat drama was directed by one of the most gifted storytellers across the globe – Robert Zemeckis (Director – Back to the Future, Cast Away). The film follows an alcoholic but brilliant airline pilot Whip Whitaker (Denzel Washington), who saves almost everyone onboard a malfunctioning airliner by using extraordinary skills.
However, the investigation reveals some surprising facts about the airline crash. Although it’s not totally an airplane-based movie, just the plane crash sequence itself makes this film worthy of being included on this list.
Neerja (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar)
Helmed by Ram Madhvani, the film’s plotline is based on the real-life hijacking of Pan Am Flight 73 by terrorists during a stopover in Karachi in September 1986. Sonam Kapoor essayed the titular role of the courageous head purser Neerja Bhanot, who had sacrificed her life while saving the lives of the ill-fated flight’s passengers.
It’s a biographical drama helmed by living legend Clint Eastwood. The story revolves around the titular protagonist – a pilot named Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger (played by Tom Hanks), who makes an emergency landing on the Hudson River when his plane malfunctions after hitting a flock of birds. The emergency landing saves many lives and makes him a hero, but the pilot must face a serious investigation regarding the incident.
Non-Stop (Streaming on MX Player)
The non-stop action thriller features Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore in the lead roles. During a flight, an alcoholic ex-cop and now a US Air Marshal (Neeson) gets a mysterious text message from a fellow passenger. During the chat, the unidentified person demands $150 million wired to an account number. Otherwise, he will kill someone every twenty minutes.
