Just a few days back, we had hand-picked for you a list of five must-watch Indian movies that might have escaped your attention probably because they weren’t as popular as their blockbuster counterparts (link at the end of the article). In the second part of the article, we have collated a list of another five overlooked yet well-made Indian films you can watch this weekend.
The good thing is that all these five rather forgotten films are currently streaming on various Indian OTT platforms. We hope you’ll enjoy these films, in case you have still not watched them, as much as we enjoyed making this listicle for you.
Bluffmaster! (Streaming on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Zee5, Lionsgate Play)
Perhaps an acquired taste, ‘Bluffmaster!’ is nevertheless a nicely executed film helmed by Rohan Sippy (Dum Maaro Dum, Criminal Justice). The crime comedy movie follows an expert conman (Abhishek Bachchan) who gets dumped by his girlfriend (Priyanka Chopra) and is diagnosed with a deadly disease. Soon, he meets an amateur conman (Ritesh Deshmukh) and decides to groom him, albeit with unanticipated consequences.
My Wife’s Murder (Streaming on MX Player)
Another overlooked film on this list, this dark thriller boasts of a terrific performance by Anil Kapoor. When a nagging housewife’s (Suchitra Krishnamoorthy) dead body is found in a pond, the investigating officer (Boman Irani) suspects that the killer might be the woman’s seemingly innocent husband (Anil Kapoor).
Anjali (Streaming on Zee5, Eros Now)
When a woman (Revathi) learns that the supposedly stillborn child she gave birth to, is actually alive but mentally ill, she decides to bring the titular two-year-old girl home. How the family develops a unique bond with Anjali, forms the rest of the plot. The critically acclaimed film eventually won three National Film Awards. It’s one of the underappreciated gems directed by veteran filmmaker Mani Ratnam.
Main, Meri Patni Aur Woh (Streaming on Netflix)
An endearing love story that follows a simple man (Rajpal Yadav) who suffers from an inferiority complex owing to his short height. He marries a beautiful and taller woman (Rituparna Sengupta). Things take an interesting turn when his wife’s well-groomed and outgoing friend (Kay Kay Menon) inadvertently enters their happy life and worsens the husband’s insecurities.
Welcome to Sajjanpur (Streaming on Netflix)
It’s a light-hearted, uncomplicated comedy film helmed by eminent filmmaker Shyam Benegal. The film revolves around an educated but unemployed man (Shreyas Talpade) who makes a living by writing letters for the uneducated village residents. The critically acclaimed film also featured Amrita Rao, Kunal Kapoor, Ravi Kishan, Ila Arun, Divya Dutta, Yashpal Sharma, and Rajit Kapoor, amongst others.
