5 Must-Watch Hyperlink / Multi-Linear Movies on OTT (Part-3)

To help our readers enjoy the weekend to the fullest and in a follow-up to our last weeks’ articles, we have compiled our third and final ‘Hyperlink’ binge-watch list comprising five must-watch ‘Hyperlink’ / Multi-linear movies (Indian and foreign) which you can stream on various Indian OTT platforms.

Hyperlink is a word made popular by film critic Roger Ebert while reviewing the film ‘Syriana’ in 2005. Hyperlink cinema is a multi-linear narrative style where multiple and often parallel storylines and their characters are in some way linked to each other and which may interweave, intersect, or diverge later in the movie. We hope you’ll enjoy binge watching these movies as much as we enjoyed making this list for you.

Maanagaram, 2017 (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video, Aha Video)
Helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the hyperlink action thriller movie revolves around the lives of four youngsters in a big city (Chennai) from different backgrounds and how their stories get interlinked with each other. The film features Sri, Sundeep Kishan, and Regina Cassandra, amongst others.

Ship of Theseus, 2012 (Streaming on Google Play, YouTube, Apple – Rent)
Directed by Anand Gandhi, the film’s plot follows multiple stories. One is about an eminent Egyptian experimental photographer Aaliya (Aida El-Kashef), who is dealing with the aftereffects of a cornea transplant on her creativity. Another one features a Jain monk Maitreya (Neeraj Kabi) who is in a dilemma to choose between his principles and his own life. And the third story follows a stockbroker Navin (Sohum Shah), who undergoes a kidney transplant and later tries to help a poor labourer get his stolen kidney back.

Watchmen, 2009 (Streaming on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video)

‘Watchmen’ was Zack Snyder’s first tryst with the superhero genre before he directed ‘Man of Steel’, ‘Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice’, and ‘Justice League’. The dystopian film follows a group of former superheroes who uncover a dangerous conspiracy when one of them is murdered. An underrated but must-watch gem for die-hard movie buffs.

Mumbai Meri Jaan, 2008 (Streaming on Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar)

Directed by Nishikant Kamat (Force, Drishyam, Madaari), the heartrending drama narrates the story of different characters and their interconnected stories and how the abominable 2006 Mumbai train bombings affected their lives in different ways. The film features a terrific cast including Paresh Rawal, Kay Kay Menon, Irrfan Khan, Madhavan, and Soha Ali Khan amongst others. Madhavan plays the role of an environmentally aware Nationalist whose wife is pregnant with their first child.

Traffic, 2000 (Streaming on Lionsgate Play)
Steven Soderbergh’s stylishly executed crime drama revolves around America’s war against drugs from the point of view of interrelated characters including the National Drug Control Policy head, his drug addicted daughter, a Mexican policeman, and the affluent wife of an imprisoned drug lord, etc.. The movie features an ensemble cast that includes Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta Jones, Don Cheadle, Benicio del Toro, and Dennis Quaid, amongst others.
