The much-anticipated thriller film ‘Netrikkan’ featuring Nayanthara was recently released on the Disney+ Hotstar OTT platform. However, the film did not meet the sky-high expectations of many viewers. So, we thought of compiling a list of five must-watch Indian films (in no particular order) you can watch this weekend on Indian OTT platforms. For the sake of consistency, we have included films which were released after the year 2000. So, here we go.
Kaabil (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar)
An engaging thriller from ‘Zinda’ director Sanjay Gupta. The film features Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam as a blind married couple. Everything goes fine when tragedy strikes their happy life when the wife is brutally assaulted by a politically connected goon. How the blind husband plans fitting revenge from the culprits, forms the rest of the plot.
Black (Streaming on Sun NXT)
Considered by many as Rani Mukerji’s finest performance and one of Amitabh Bachchan’s too, ‘Black’ revolves around the unique relationship between a deaf-and-blind woman (Rani Mukerji) and her teacher (Amitabh Bachchan). It was helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the film eventually won three National Film Awards and eleven Filmfare Awards.
Fanaa (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video)
The first half of the romantic thriller film mainly revolves around the love story between a blind Kashmiri girl (Kajol) and a happy-go-lucky Delhi tourist guide (Aamir Khan). The second half of the film takes a darker turn when Aamir Khan’s multi-layered character comes to the fore. The film was directed by Kunal Kohli.
Aankhen (Streaming on Netflix & Jio)
When a brilliant but hot-tempered man (Amitabh Bachchan) is fired by the bank he had diligently worked for his whole life, he masterminds a seemingly impossible plan. The disgruntled man hires three blind men (Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal, and Paresh Rawal) and trains them to rob the bank. This Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s directorial was widely acclaimed for its deft execution and one-of-its-kind plot.
Andhadhun (Streaming on Netflix + Jio)
Although the inclusion of this highly-rated movie for this list might be a matter of debate but excluding it from any such list may also be considered by many as unfair. The story follows a blind pianist who gets an offer from a once-famous actor to perform a private concert for him at his place. The pianist happily accepts but gets more than he had bargained for.
